Carrie Portrait

This was a quick study of my friend, Carrie, in painting class. One day, she showed up late as our class of three were going about planning our next painting project. I was toying around with my new Zune since I had transferred a movie file to it. The file was of the planning and execution of launching an old, Leyland Mini down an Olympic ski jump ramp further than a person (check something called Top Gear).

Anyway, I had her watch the segment. I eventually took notice to how stationary she was as she watched, so I decided to draw her while she was contently occupied. I finished as the movie movie file ended, so my results were good.

I like drawing people this way, unaware that they are subjects in an artwork. This way, they behave more naturally. If she knew I was drawing her, she'd become rigid and stiff, making a simple task of sitting become work. Essentially, I'd like my portraits to have a photographic/photo-realistic air about them.
